Guide
Melbourne is notorious for its mindboggling array of street art and graffiti, our city being one of the world’s biggest champions of stencil art. This year’s Sweet Streets festival (formerly the Melbourne Stencil Festival) is a celebration of the richly painted concrete canvas of our urban landscape.
Famous for their graff-adorned walls, the CBD’s Hosier Lane and Centre Place are overpopulated by tourists and wedding photographers. But look a little further out and you’ll discover the best art can be found in the back laneways of Fitzroy and Collingwood. From October 8 – 24, the inner city is being transformed into a hub for lovers of street art, with various events – many of which are free – ranging from exhibitions to master classes with prominent artists.
