The Centro Box Hill Budget Gourmet Pop-Up Cafe
Box Hill Centro Food Court, South precinct.
Thursday, June 2
Two Sittings: 10am & 11:30am.

Living on the east side, Box Hill shopping centre has always been the closest thing to Victoria St (minus the dealers) with its cheap Vietnamese and Chinese eateries and of course the huge range of affordable produce at the Centro. I’ve recently started hitting up Box Hill Centro quite regularly, mainly because as a uni student my Youth Allowance dollar is going to go a lot further at the stalls without quality being compromised. Besides, the Vic Market is too much of a pain to get to on weekdays. However, access to a range of ingredients is one thing, but knowing how to use them is another. Thankfully, Box Hill Centro is going next level with its response to this dilemma.

“You don’t have to be a Masterchef to master gourmet cooking” states Celebrity Chef Ed Halmagyi, who will be rocking up to the centre on Thursday 2nd of June to host a pop up gourmet café. For one day only, tables will be clad with white linen, waiters adorned with starched aprons, and guests treated to gastronomic treats. The Centro Box Hill Budget Gourmet Pop-Up Cafe is an event to highlight how produce from the various stores and stalls can be turned into cost effective gourmet meals.

Guests will be treated to bucatini with smoked trout and rocket sauce, and lamb curry with parathas. Ed will also be whipping up a flavoursome silverbeet and parsley soup with sour cream and smoked almond dumplings. For dessert, pavlova roll with strawberries and pears.

Whether you want to learn how to utilise fresh and affordable produce yourself or just want to take advantage of someone else being able to do it, Centro Food Court on June 2nd is the place to be in Box Hill.
